INVESTIGATION WORKS ON A720 SLIP ROADS

June 30, 2025

  • Overnight slip road closures Wednesday 2, 3 and 4 July 2025

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is to carry out investigation works on three slip roads on the A720 Edinburgh Bypass in advance of future resurfacing.

The Calder westbound off-slip, the Lasswade westbound on-slip and the Millerhill westbound on-slip will be subject to a full overnight closure from 20:30 to 06:00 on the dates listed below:

  • Wednesday 2 July – Calder westbound off-slip

Traffic will be diverted onwards via the A720 westbound, the Glasgow/M8 slip to Hermiston Gait Roundabout, and the fourth exit onto the A71 to rejoin at Calder Junction, adding approximately 2 minutes  and 1.2 miles to affected journeys.

  • Thursday 3 July – Lasswade westbound on-slip

Traffic will be diverted via Lasswade Road and Lang Loan to rejoin at Straiton Junction, adding approximately 6 minutes and 0.5 miles to affected journeys.

  • Friday 4 July – Millerhill westbound on-slip

Traffic will be diverted via the A720 eastbound to Old Craighall Junction, then the fourth exit to rejoin the A720 westbound, adding approximately 4 minutes and 2 miles to affected journeys.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times, and all traffic management will be removed outside of working hours.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Network Manager, said: “It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close these slip roads during the works, however we’ve scheduled this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these investigation works.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot for up-to-date travel information.
