In the third quarter of 2025, BEAR Scotland delivered almost £26 million in improvements and maintenance across the South East trunk road network on behalf of our client Transport Scotland.
This included resurfacing projects worth over £9 million, improving surface quality and overall safety for motorists on various routes:
Bridges projects worth almost £9.8 million were delivered in the quarter. On the Forth Road Bridge, multiple works were completed including grillage steelwork paint repairs, cable inspections and bolt replacements. Deck refurbishment was completed at Craigforth Bridge, which carries the A84 over the M9, and cathodic protection was installed at Knockhill Bridge on the M9. The major project to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 over the M8 between Bathgate and Blackburn continued, and joint replacement works were carried out on the A1 at Old Craighall.
Roadside safety barriers were upgraded on the M9 between Junctions 3 and 4 and between Junctions 8 and 9.
Improved road markings were installed on the M9, on the A876 at Higgins Neuk Roundabout, and on the A68 between the A720 and Earlston. New 20mph gateways and roundels were installed on the A977 at Kincardine, the A985 at Rosyth and the A68 at Pathhead.
Drainage improvement schemes were carried out on the A1, A68, A702, A876, A977, A985, M876 and M9.
