BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be undertaking hard shoulder resurfacing on the M8 eastbound carriageway between Junction 6A and Junction 5 over two nights.
Works will include a full eastbound carriageway closure between 8.30pm and 6am on the nights of Thursday 16 April and Friday 17 April.
During this period of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place. Traffic will be diverted via the Junction 6A eastbound off slip onto the A8 and follow the road to the Newhouse Roundabout and take the third exit onto Bellside Road (A73) and then take the first exit at the next roundabout onto Hirst Road (B7066). Traffic will then follow the road until reaching M8 Junction 5 and rejoin the M8 eastbound. This diversion will add approximately 0.6 miles and 4 minutes to affected journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Closing the M8 eastbound carriageway between Junction 6a and Junction 5 is essential to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce during these resurfacing works.
“We’ve planned the works overnight to minimise disruption as much as possible, however we understand this may still cause inconvenience for some road users. We thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.
“If you need to use this route during the works, plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion.”
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
