FURTHER ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A720 AT BABERTON JUNCTION

May 20, 2021

20 May 2021

  • Temporary lane closure for three nights commencing Sunday 23 May 2021

As part of the barrier improvement works on the A720, a closure of the Baberton on-slip is required for three nights which will commence Sunday 23 May until Wednesday 26 May.

This element of the road safety improvement scheme will involve removing the existing safety barrier on the A720 at Baberton Junction, on the eastbound carriageway at the A70 Lanark Rd overbridge, and replacing it with a new upgraded vehicle restraint system. This is coordinated with the completion of the improvements to the central reservation in the same area.

For the protection of site operatives and road users, the A720 will be reduced to one lane in both directions, and the Baberton A720 on-slip will also be closed between 19:30 and 6:30 each night. During this period all traffic intending to join A720 City of Edinburgh Bypass eastbound at Baberton Junction will need to divert via B701 Wester Hailes Road and A71 Calder Road to the Calder Junction.

Commenting on the project, Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Safety is a top priority for both Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland and this scheme is part of that continued commitment.

“We’ve scheduled these works overnight in order to minimise any disruption and our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible. We’d like to thank all road users and those who may be impacted by these works in advance for their patience.”
