FORTH ROAD BRIDGE CENTRAL GRILLAGE REFURBISHMENT

June 5, 2026

Update on 19 June 2026: Works on the Forth Road Bridge have been postponed and will now commence on Thursday 25 June. See new information below.

  • Overnight bridge closures 25, 26 and 27 June 2026

Single lane closures in both directions will then remain in place until the end of October.

During overnight closures, the bus stop at the north end of the Forth Road Bridge will be temporarily relocated to Ferrytoll Park and Ride, and the bus stop at the south end will be temporarily relocated to the existing bus stop on Builyeon Road, next to the BP service station.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for traffic that would normally use the A9000 Forth Road Bridge. Motorway traffic will be diverted via the Queensferry Crossing, and non-motorway traffic via Kincardine Bridge.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The east footway will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Bridges Manager, said: “The refurbishment of the Forth Road Bridge central grillage forms part of an extensive programme of maintenance to ensure that the bridge remains in good condition. Overnight closures are required to allow us to set up traffic management safely.

“We don’t expect these closures to cause any significant disruption, however please note that the bus stops at the ends of the bridge will be relocated on these nights.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about this project in advance.
