ESSENTIAL SURFACING IMROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A84 BRIDGE OF TEITH IN DOUNE

August 10, 2022

Project to begin on Tuesday 16 August for seven nights

  • Overnight road closures to be implemented 16 and 17 August, 8pm to 5am

  • Overnight convoy to be operated from 18 to 24 August, 7pm to 5am

  • No works to be undertaken on Friday or Saturday nights.

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential surfacing improvements on the A84 Bridge of Teith in Doune, with works set to get underway from Tuesday 16 August.

The project will see around 630 metres of the A84 at Bridge of Teith resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The works will take place from Tuesday 16 August for seven nights, excluding Friday or Saturday nights. All works are expected to be complete on 5am Thursday 25 August, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, the works will take place as follows:

  • Tuesday 16 – Wednesday 17 August, 8pm – 5am (two nights) – Due to the narrow widths on the Bridge of Teith carriageway, a full road closure will be in place during working hours. For motorists travelling between A84 Craigforth West Roundabout and A84/A820 Doune Junction, a signed diversion route will be in place via the A84, A9 and then the A820. Motorists should be aware there is a height restriction of 4.3m/14’3” on Causewayhead Road next to the Stirling Country Rugby Club.

  • Thursday 18 to Wednesday 24 August, 7pm – 5am (five nights) – A lane closure with a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours.

Outwith working hours, traffic management will be removed; however, drivers should be cautious that they will be driving over a temporary road surface until works are complete.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A84 at Bridge of Teith will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“Due to the narrow widths at the Bridge of Teith, we will be utilising a night-time road closure and night-time convoy throughout the works. We will not be undertaking any works on the Friday or Saturday night to minimise the disruption experienced at the weekend.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
