September 5, 2022

OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR THE A82 AT ACHNAHANNET HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED

Please be advised that due to the public holiday for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, the surfacing improvements planned for the A82 at Achnahannet south of Drumnadrochit have been rescheduled.

The improvements were scheduled to begin on Sunday 18 September for six nights; however, works will now start on Tuesday 20 September for six nights between 7pm and 7am. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday and all works are expected to be complete by 7am Wednesday 28 September, subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will remain as originally programmed; to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. The convoy system will be removed outwith working hours; however, a 30mph speed limit will be in place outwith working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes.

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland .org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential surfacing improvements on the A82 at Achnahannet south of Drumnadrochit, with works set to get underway from Sunday 18 September.

The project will see 750m of the A82 south of Drumnadrochit resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The project is scheduled to take place over six nights, with works planned between 8pm and 7am each night. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday. All works are anticipated to be complete by 7am Monday 26 September, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. The convoy system will be removed outwith working hours; however, a 30mph speed limit will be in place outwith working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These surfacing works on the A82 south of Drumnadrochit will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“The use of convoy traffic management during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. We will not be undertaking any works on the Friday or Saturday night to minimise the disruption experienced at the weekend.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
