ESSENTIAL REPAIR WORKS PLANNED FOR THE A82 CHOILICH BRIDGE AND A82 CEANNSIDE THREE BRIDGE

July 22, 2022

Works to begin Monday 1 August for two weeks

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be undertaking essential bridge repairs on the A82, involving Choilich Bridge and Ceannside Three Bridge south of Laggan, from Monday 1 August.

The repairs proposed at the A82 Choilich Bridge will see teams remove the existing damaged section of the concrete parapet, undertake concrete repairs to the underside of the bridge and implement measures to address scour before it affects the structure.

At the A82 Ceannside Three Bridge, repairs to the existing concrete beams under the bridge deck will be undertaken to ensure the bridge remains in a safe working condition.

The works are planned over two weeks and are scheduled to take place between 8am and 5pm each day. No works are planned to take place on Saturdays and Sundays. All works are expected to be complete by 5pm on Friday 12 August, subject to weather conditions.

The traffic management will take place as follows:

  • A82 Choilich Bridge:

Monday 1 August to Wednesday 3 August (three days) – For the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the A82 northbound lane will be closed during the daytime and temporary traffic lights with a 10mph convoy system will be in place to manage traffic. Overnight, the convoy will be removed but the temporary traffic lights will remain and a 30mph speed limit will be in place.

Thursday 4 August to Friday 5 August, 8am – 5pm (two days) – To protect roadworkers as well as motorists, the A82 northbound lane will be closed and temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place.

  • A82 Ceannside Three – Monday 8 August to Friday 12 August, 8am – 5pm (five days) – To protect roadworkers and motorists, the A82 northbound lane will be closed and temporary traffic lights utilised to manage traffic movements.

Commenting on the proposals, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These essential repairs to the Choilich Bridge and Ceannside Three Bridge on the A82 will ensure the structures remain in a safe working condition.

“The traffic management proposed is essential to the safety of our roadworkers as well as road users.  We have taken steps to minimise disruption by having no works over the weekend.

“Our team will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible. We thank road users for their patience in advance and encourage them to plan their journey by checking the Traffic Scotland website and allow some extra time to complete their journeys.”
