ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORKS PLANNED FOR A9 BLACKFORD RAIL BRIDGE

September 6, 2022

Works to begin from Monday 12 September

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential parapet installation works on the A9 Blackford Rail Bridge east of Blackford, with works set to get underway from Monday 12 September.

The essential parapet works will ensure long-term durability and serviceability of the structure.

The project is planned to take place over seven days, with all works expected to be complete by the morning of Monday 19 September, subject to weather conditions.

The project will take place as follows:

  • Monday 12 September to Sunday 18 September (seven days). During replacement of the existing parapet, and adjacent vehicle barriers, lane one northbound and southbound carriageway closures will be in place continuously to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

  • Sunday 18 September (one night). An overnight road closure will be implemented northbound, with traffic diverted through Blackford. There will also be a southbound lane 2 closure. Traffic management, as outlined, will ensure all temporary barriers can be lifted safely from site. All traffic management will be removed by Monday 19 September.

Consultation has been undertaken with Transport Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council, Community Councils, Police Scotland, and transport operators to inform them of the programme of works.

A BEAR Scotland spokesperson said: “These parapet installation works to the A9 Blackford Rail Bridge ensures this bridge near Blackford continues to operate safely for years to come.

“The traffic management is essential for ensuring the safety of our work force as well as motorists, and our teams will do all they can to carry out the work as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank road users for their patience during these essential works and encourage them to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website before they travel and allowing some extra time to reach their destination.”
