BEAR Scotland, which operates and maintains trunk roads across South East Scotland, has donated £750 to Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre, a volunteer-run charity that supports individuals with additional support needs and disabilities through therapeutic horse riding and animal care.
As part of its Regional Charity Initiative, BEAR Scotland encourages employees to nominate good causes that are close to their hearts, supporting charities that make a difference in the communities where the company operates. BEAR Scotland manages and maintains the A985, M90, M876 and M9 trunk roads in the South East.
Madi Jones, BEAR Scotland’s South East Customer and Community Relations Officer, nominated Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre for the donation. She said: “I nominated Shiresmill Riding Therapy for funding because of the incredible impact they have on children and adults with additional support needs through therapeutic horse riding. With a passion for ponies in my family, I can appreciate the joy, confidence, and emotional support these animals bring to people’s lives. Supporting this fantastic cause means we can help the dedicated team of volunteers continue to provide life-changing experiences for those who take part.”
Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre have seven horses and a team of dedicated volunteers to look after them. They offer a range of activities and encourage all who participate to build meaningful connections with the horses, as if making a new friend!
Lynda Milne, Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre’s Secretary said: “We hugely appreciate donations like this as we believe everyone should have access to equine therapy. We operate on a pay-what-you-can system so donations like this help with feeding costs and general maintenance.
“The change we have seen in some children from their first day to now has been night and day. It is absolutely incredible to watch and a joy to be a part of their journey.”
