EMERGENCY REPAIRS ON A702 IN BIGGAR FOLLOWING BURST WATER MAIN

December 10, 2020

Statement from Scottish Water:

Scottish Water will carry out emergency repairs to a burst water main on the A702 in Biggar, South Lanarkshire this evening, Thursday 10 December 2020.

To allow the repair to the six-inch main to be completed safely, a short stretch of the A702 will be closed between Sainsbury’s Bank and Kirkstyle.

The road closure will be in place from 7.30pm this evening until 7am tomorrow morning and has been agreed in liaison with Bear Scotland and South Lanarkshire Council.

From tomorrow, Friday 11 December, three-way traffic lights will be in operation for around three days to allow the full reinstatement of the roadway to be undertaken.

Water supplies in the area are not currently affected and Scottish Water’s team will use the resilience built into the local network to keep any short-term impact on service to a minimum.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.

A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from north of Abington to Melbourne Crossroads via the A73, A70 and A721.
