DRAINAGE WORKS ON M8 BETWEEN JUNCTIONS 2 AND 3

January 19, 2026

  • Overnight lane closures 26 January to 24 February and 9 to 17 March 2026

  • Daytime hard shoulder closures 26 January to 2 March 2026

A series of overnight lane closures is scheduled on the M8 between Junctions 2 and 3, to allow trunk road operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out drainage construction works on the motorway near Newhouses Road south of Broxburn.

Lane closures will be in place between 20:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 26 January to Tuesday 24 February, and from Monday 9 March to Tuesday 17 March. The hard shoulders will also be closed 24 hours a day from Monday 26 January to Tuesday 2 March.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The drainage scheme will involve pipe repairs and replacement where required, as well as camera surveys and jetting of channels over approximately two kilometres of both the westbound and eastbound carriageways. Concrete canvas will also be installed in sections of the ditch to restore effective drainage.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These drainage works will improve safety for motorists using the M8.

“Lane closures are essential for the safety of road users and the workforce, however we’ve scheduled these at night to minimise disruption.

“These are just some of the improvements being carried out on this section of the motorway – the works will be coordinated with landscaping and streetlighting works being carried out simultaneously.”
