DRAINAGE WORKS ON M8 BETWEEN JUNCTIONS 2 AND 3

August 5, 2025

  • Overnight lane closures from 11 August to 16 September 2025

  • Daytime hard shoulder closures from 1 to 9 September 2025

Trunk road operating company BEAR Scotland is to conduct a drainage Investigation on the M8 between Junctions 2 and 3, near Newhouses Road south of Broxburn.

The scheme will involve a camera survey and jetting of drainage channels over approximately two kilometres of both the westbound and eastbound carriageways. Ditch clearance will also be carried out over approximately one and a half kilometres of the westbound carriageway.

For the safety of motorists and the workforce, overnight lane closures will be required between 20:30 and 06:00 each night from Monday 11 August to Tuesday 16 September.

Hard shoulder closures will also be in place between 08:00 and 17:00 each day from Monday 1 September to Tuesday 9 September.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These investigation works will improve safety for motorists using the M8 by clearing drainage channels and identifying any repairs that are required.

“We’ll do all we can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
