DRAINAGE INVESTIGATION ON THE A720 CALDER EASTBOUND ON-SLIP

May 22, 2025

  • Overnight slip road closure 28 May 2025

BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is to carry out essential drainage investigation works on the slip road onto the eastbound A720 Edinburgh City Bypass at Calder Junction.

The works will be carried out on the night of Wednesday 28 May between 20:30 and 06:00.

The slip road and one lane of the main carriageway will be closed during the works, with a signed diversion route in place via the A71 Calder Road, the B701 Wester Hailes Road, and then the third exit at Clovenstone Roundabout onto the A720 at Baberton. This diversion will add approximately 1.9 miles and 7 minutes onto affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. All traffic management will be removed outside of working hours.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot or @trafficscotland on X for up-to-date travel information.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
