DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS ON THE M80 AT BANNOCKBURN

June 2, 2022

  • Overnight lane closures for seven weeks

The M80 near Bannockburn is set to benefit from a Transport Scotland investment of £500,000 in drainage improvements.

Six kilometres of filter stone will be replaced between Bannockburn and River Carron on the southbound carriageway.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works at night over seven weeks, beginning on the night of Monday 6 June.

Overnight lane closures will be in place on the southbound M80 between 7:30pm and 6am from Monday to Friday, with the hard shoulder and lane 1 closed.

Recycled aggregates will be used, to reduce the project’s environmental impact.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These drainage improvements will enhance safety for motorists on this stretch of the M80 by allowing surface water to drain away more quickly.

“We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption. The majority of the works can be carried out with lane closures rather than full road closures, however we will need to close the slip road onto the motorway at Bannockburn in early July. We’ll publicise details as soon as they are confirmed.”

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
