DECK REPAIRS ON BRIDGE CARRYING A84 OVER M9

May 22, 2025

  • Overnight closures of A84 in both directions 26 and 27 May 2025

Two overnight closures of the bridge carrying the A84 trunk road over the M9 are scheduled, to allow concrete repairs to be carried out as part of an ongoing major refurbishment project.

The bridge will be closed in both directions between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 May.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during these closures:

  • Road users heading east on the A84 will be diverted onto the M9 northbound to turn at Junction 11 Keir Roundabout, returning southbound to exit via the Junction 10 off-slip. This diversion will add approximately 6 miles and 7 minutes to affected journeys.
  • Road users heading west on the A84 will be diverted onto the M9 southbound to turn at Junction 9 Pirnhall, returning northbound to join the A84 via the Junction 10 off-slip. This diversion will add approximately 10 miles and 11 minutes to affected journeys.
  • A separate diversion route for traffic not permitted to use the motorway will be signposted via the A84, the A811 and the B8075.

The footways across the bridge will also be closed, with a diversion route for cyclists and pedestrians signposted via a path to the north of the bridge.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The deck of the bridge carrying the A84 over the M9 at Craigforth requires extensive concrete repairs, the full extent of which could only be determined once we had opened up the surface to investigate.

“It is essential that these repairs are completed comprehensively to ensure that this bridge continues to provide safe and reliable service. Unfortunately this does require two full bridge closures, however we will limit these to overnight hours in order to minimise the impact on the public.

“If you do need to use this route on the night of any of the closures, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for your journey.”
