DAYSHIFT RESURFACING WORKS ON A99 AT HEMPRIGGS

June 22, 2026

Update on 2 July 2026: Due to additional works required on the A99 at Hempriggs, four additional days are now scheduled. See new information below.

  • Starting on Monday 29 June

  • Lane closure with convoy between 7am and 7pm

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential surface improvements on the A99 South of Wick at Hempriggs.

Works are set to take place over 14 days, from the morning of Monday 29 June to the evening of Thursday 16 July, between 7am and 7pm each day. No work will be carried out on Saturday and Sunday.

To protect roadworkers and motorists, there will be a lane closure with a convoy in place each day. Traffic management will be in place on the nights of Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 July. Outwith working hours, a speed restriction of 30mph will be in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as they can. We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these works. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, or X @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA-approved methods.
