CLOSURES OF EASTBOUND M876 AT M9 HILL BRIDGE

December 2, 2021

  • Overnight closures to allow jacking of bridge deck on 6, 9 and 10 December 2021

  • 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures to continue until end of April 2022

The eastbound M876 will be closed from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of 6, 9 and 10 December, while the bridge deck is jacked up to allow worn out bearings to be removed.

A diversion will be signposted from M876 Junction 2 to the M9 Junction 7 via Bellsdyke Road, the A905 and Bowtrees Roundabout, adding an estimated 3.5 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

This is a change from the previously advertised closure date of Thursday 2 December, which will no longer be required.

These closures form part of a major project to replace bearings and safety barriers on the bridge that carries the eastbound M876 over the M9 at Junction 8 Kinnaird Interchange.

On the M9, two lanes in each direction will remain open during daytime hours, however a 50mph speed limit and overnight lane closures will continue until the end of April 2022.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “It is necessary to close the eastbound M876 while we jack up the bridge deck to allow the old bearings to be removed.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience. We would ask them to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journey and comply with speed limits to protect our workforce.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders including local authorities and Police Scotland in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
