CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS AT M9 JUNCTION 1

March 18, 2026

  • Overnight slip road closure Thursday 19 March 2026

The slip road exiting the M9 southbound at Junction 1, Newbridge, will be closed for carriageway repairs between 23:30 and 05:30 on the night of Thursday 19 March.

A signed diversion route for traffic wishing to access Newbridge Roundabout will be in place via the M9 southbound and M8 eastbound to Hermiston Gait, where traffic can turn and return via the M8 westbound and M9 northbound. This will add approximately 13 minutes and 9.9 miles to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s necessary to close the southbound off-slip at M9 Junction 1 to allow us to carry out repairs to the carriageway.

“We’ll do this late at night to minimise disruption, however if you need to use this route during the works, please allow some extra time for the diversion.”

Live traffic information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot or on X at @trafficscotland.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
