BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential carriageway improvements on the A9 on north of Ballinluig.

Works will take place each night between 7pm and 6am from the evening of Tuesday 12 May until the morning of Thursday 21 May. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday night.

To protect road users and roadworkers, the following traffic management arrangements will be in place:

  • Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 May: Northbound lane closure with a 10mph convoy system in place.
  • Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 May: Northbound lane closure with a 10 mph convoy system in place. Balchandy crossover will be closed throughout with a diversion in place.
    • Northbound traffic looking to turn off at Balchandy crossover will continue north along the A9 and come off at the southern Pitlochry Interchange then taking the first right along the local road towards Dalshian to complete their journey.
    • Southbound traffic looking to turn off at Balchandy will instead be directed off the A9 at Ballinluig before rejoining the A9 northbound and continuing on the northbound diversion.
  • Monday 18 May: Southbound Lane 1 closure with a 10mph convoy system in place. Balchandy Junction will also be closed with the same diversion as above.
  • Tuesday 19 and Monday 20 May: Southbound Lane 1 closure with a 10mph convoy system in place. Layby 34 will also be closed.

Outwith working hours all traffic management measures will be removed, however, a 30mph speed restrictions will remain in place as there will be no road markings and traffic may need to travel over a temporary surface.

Access through the works sites for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Design Manager said: “These crucial surfacing projects along the A9 will fix existing defects and significantly enhance the driving experience for all motorists. Our teams are committed to executing these works with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.

“We recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”
