• Overnight northbound carriageway closures 8 to 12 December 2025

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to carry out joint replacement works on the bridge carrying the motorway over the railway between M9 Junction 1A (Kirkliston) and M90 Junction 1 (Scotstoun).

The northbound carriageway of the M90 will be fully closed between M9 Junction 1A and M90 Junction 1 between 20:00 and 06:00 for five consecutive nights from Monday 8 December to Friday 12 December.

During these closures, signed diversion routes will be in place:

• Traffic wishing to join the M90 northbound from the M9 eastbound will be diverted off the motorway at M9 Junction 2, onto the B8046 and then the A904 to M90 Junction 1A (Queensferry). This will add approximately 3 minutes and no additional distance to affected journeys.
• Traffic wishing to join the M90 northbound from the M9 westbound will be diverted on to turn at M9 Junction 3, returning eastbound to exit at M9 Junction 2, onto the B8046 and then the A904 to M90 Junction 1A Queensferry. This will add approximately 9 minutes and 7.5 miles onto journeys.
• The slip road onto the M9 eastbound at Junction 1B (Winchburgh) will also be closed. Traffic wishing to join the M9 eastbound will be diverted via the M9 westbound to turn at Junction 3 and return eastbound. This will add approximately 9 minutes and 8 miles onto journeys. Traffic wishing to join the M90 northbound from Junction 1B will be diverted via the M9 westbound to turn at Junction 3 and return eastbound to exit at M9 Junction 2, onto the B8046 and then the A904 to M90 Junction 1A Queensferry. This will add approximately 9 mins and 7.5 miles to journeys.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The project to replace these bridge joints is essential to ensuring that this motorway structure continues to provide a safe and reliable service for years to come.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however if you need to use this route during the works our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for the diversion.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
