BRIDGE WORKS ON M8 BETWEEN JUNCTIONS 3A AND 4

April 3, 2026

  • Overnight carriageway closure 3 April 2026

A late-night closure of the M8 westbound carriageway between Junctions 3A and 4 is planned tonight, to allow additional works to be completed following the recent project to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 local road over the motorway between Bathgate and Blackburn.

The closure is planned to be in place between 22:00 tonight and 06:00 on Saturday morning.

A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from M8 Junction 3A to M8 Junction 4, via the A779, A7066, and the A801, adding an estimated 1.1 miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This bridge over the M8 has recently been refurbished to ensure it can continue to provide safe and reliable service for decades to come.

“Some additional works are now required below the bridge, therefore an overnight carriageway closure is necessary for the safety of workers and road users.

“If you need to use this route tonight, our advice is to allow a few extra minutes for the diversion. We thank road users for their understanding.”

These works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of adverse conditions.
