BRIDGE INSPECTION WORKS AT M8 JUNCTION 3

October 20, 2026

  • Overnight slip road and lane closures 9 and 10 November 2026

The slip road onto the M8 eastbound at Junction 3, Livingston, will be closed between 20:30 and 06:00 on the night of Monday 9 November, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out painting inspection works on two bridges over the motorway.

A signed diversion route for traffic wishing to join the M8 eastbound at Junction 3 will be in place via the A89 from Dechmont Roundabout to Newbridge Roundabout, and then the M9 southbound to join the M8 at Junction 2. This will add approximately ten minutes and 0.8 miles to affected journeys.

Single lane closures will also be in place on the M8 eastbound carriageway on the night of 9 November, and on the M8 westbound carriageway on the night of 10 November.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said “We need to close lanes below bridges where inspection work is taking place to ensure the safety of both road users and our workforce.

“We’ll do this overnight to minimise disruption, however we understand this may still cause inconvenience for some road users. We thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
