BRIDGE CLEANING WORK ON M8 HARTHILL FOOTBRIDGE

January 20, 2021

UPDATE 1 February 2020: With the forecast for snow from this evening and for the next few days, we will be postponing the footbridge washing until at least the middle of the week.  We will continue to monitor the forecast and advise of any changes.

Re-scheduled bridge cleaning work on the M8 Harthill footbridge will take place between Monday 1st February and Saturday 6th February 2021 (eastbound) and Monday 8th February to Saturday  13th February 2021 (westbound) from 10pm and 6am, each night Monday to Saturday.

This work has been re-programmed in response to adverse weather conditions in January.

This requires a full closure of the eastbound M8 between Junction 5 and Junction 4a from 1st February to 6th February. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the B7057 through Harthill to the B7066 to re-join the M8 east at Junction 4a.

This will be followed by a full closure of the westbound M8 between Junction 4a and Junction 5 from 8th February to 13th February. Westbound traffic will be diverted via the B7066 through Harthill to the B7057 to re-join the M8 west at Junction 5.

This work is being carried out by Amey plc as part of the close-out of the previous South East trunk roads contract, which they operated until August 2020. The work has been planned in consultation with BEAR Scotland, who are now responsible for managing and maintaining this part of the network.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
