BORDERS PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT RECEIVES £750 FROM BEAR SCOTLAND

September 4, 2025

Scotland’s leading road maintenance company, BEAR Scotland, has donated £750 to the Margaret Kerr Unit, within Borders General Hospital. The unit provides palliative care and ensures those receiving end-of-life care and their families are comfortable and supported.

BEAR Scotland’s Eyemouth Operations Supervisor, Gary Stobbart, nominated the Margaret Kerr Unit to receive this donation as part of the company’s Regional Charity Initiative.

He said: “It is an amazing service that this unit offers. The staff go above and beyond for every patient no matter what.

“My dad was admitted to the Margaret Kerr Unit before he passed. We were met with nothing but kindness from them. Dad was comfortable, and the staff were helpful and caring towards my family. Being able to give back to such lovely people is a blessing and this donation is made in his memory.”

Gary’s dad also worked with BEAR Scotland until he died.

Rebecca Egan, Fundraising Officer for NHS Borders Health Charity said: “Donations like this one will help us continue caring for families like Gary’s. From providing teas and coffees to those with us to developing dedicated bereavement support for patients and families.

“We appreciate the lovely words Gary has shared about his experience, and we hope we can continue to support others, and they have a similar experience.”

BEAR Scotland offer staff the opportunity to nominate local causes they care about to receive a donation through their Regional Charity Initiative. This forms part of the wider commitment to communities across South East, where it manages and maintains the trunk road network on behalf of Transport Scotland.
