BARRIER REPAIRS AT BANKTON JUNCTION ON THE A1

August 2, 2022

  • Overnight slip road closures 10 and 12 August 2022

The slip road off the southbound A1 at Bankton Junction will be closed from 19:30 until 06:30 on the nights of Wednesday 10 August and Friday 12 August, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out repairs to damaged roadside safety barriers.

Southbound traffic wishing to exit the A1 at Bankton Junction will be directed to continue southbound on the A1 before turning at Gladsmuir Junction and returning on the A1 northbound carriageway to exit at Bankton Junction via the northbound off-slip. This diversion will add approximately 5.8 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for the safety of road workers and motorists that we close the slip road during these works, however we’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these essential repairs.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.trafficscotland.org for up to date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.
