BARRIER REPAIR ON THE A1 AT GRANTSHOUSE

March 7, 2024

  • Lane and speed restrictions until Wednesday 13 March 2024

Lane and speed restrictions will be in place on the A1 north of Grantshouse until Wednesday 13 March, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to replace a damaged section of safety barrier.

Approximately 60 metres of vehicle restraint barrier in the central reservation of the dual carriageway was damaged after it was struck by a jack-knifed HGV on the afternoon of Tuesday 5 March. BEAR Scotland operatives attended and made the area safe, introducing a 40mph speed limit and closing the off-side lane to traffic in both directions.

BEAR Scotland will begin work on site to replace the damaged section of barrier on the night of Sunday 10 March. One lane in each direction will remain open throughout the works, which are expected to be complete with restrictions removed by the morning of Wednesday 13 March.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Lane and speed restrictions will be in place for the safety of road users and our workforce until this damaged barrier is replaced.

“We’re currently mobilising resources to carry out the works and will complete them as quickly and safely as possible.”
