A985 KINCARDINE BRIDGE PORTALS MAINTENANCE

August 16, 2023

  • Off-peak temporary traffic lights to allow safe removal of skylights and debris

  • Five day project to commence 21 August 2023

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A985 Kincardine Bridge between 09:30 and 15:30 for five days commencing on Monday 21 August.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to remove deteriorating skylights and debris from the concrete portals straddling the A985 at either end of the bridge’s central section.

The skylights in the portals are constructed from glass blocks and are now showing signs of degradation. These will be removed and stored appropriately pending future reinstallation, with temporary replacements put in place to ensure weather tightness is retained in the meantime.

As well as removal of the skylights, debris that has built up over time and material left from previous remedial works will be removed.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland South East Unit Bridge Manager says: “The skylights in the Kincardine Bridge’s portals are showing signs of degradation, so it is essential that these works are carried out to ensure loose material does not fall onto the carriageway and pedestrian footpaths below.

“Traffic management will only be in place outwith peak hours. We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
