A977 ROAD WIDENING: EXTENSION OF CONSTRUCTION PHASE

December 23, 2022

  • Temporary traffic lights each weekday night until end February 2023

  • Occasional overnight road closures as required

The construction phase of works on the A977 to widen the northbound side of the road on the approach to Gartarry Roundabout is to be extended until the end of February.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland began the road widening project on 17 October, with lane closures and temporary traffic lights in place between 19:30 and 06:30 each weekday night since then.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “When complete, this road widening scheme will reduce queuing and congestion around Kilbagie and Gartarry Roundabouts during peak times.

“Due to poor ground conditions and adverse weather encountered during the construction phase so far, additional works and time are required to effectively mitigate the effects and ensure a high-quality end product.

“We will still be able to carry out most of the works using lane closures and temporary traffic lights. An occasional night-time full closure of the road will also be required, and this will be advertised in advance.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding.”

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website www.traffic.gov.scot for up-to-date travel information and allowing extra time for their journey.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
