NEW £90,000 OVERNIGHT ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

A92 Freuchie to Newport-on-Tay

Works start Sunday 13 September for two weeks

A road safety improvement project on the A92 between Freuchie and Newport-on-Tay is set to get underway from Sunday 13 September.

The project will see improvements to road markings at 24 junctions on the A92 starting in Freuchie before moving north towards Newport-on-Tay, helping to ensure these sections of the A92 remain safe and reliable.

The safety improvements are scheduled to begin on Sunday 13 September and will take place over 12 nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, single lane closures with temporary traffic lights will be in place during working hours at each location. It is expected that two junctions will be completed each night with traffic management continually moving north during the programme. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime to help minimise disruption to road users.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.  Safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This project is part of BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland’s commitment to improving road safety across the network and to ensure it remains to the highest standards.

“The traffic management is essential to keep the workforce and road users safe during this project. We have programmed to work to take place overnight to help minimise disruption to road users as much as possible.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
