A90 GLAMIS JUNCTION TO KIRRIEMUIR JUNCTION

October 2, 2020

£510,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A90 Glamis Junction to Kirriemuir Junction, northbound

Works start Sunday 4 October for one week

A section of the A90 at Forfar is set to benefit from resurfacing improvements worth £510,000 with work set to get underway from Sunday.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the northbound section of the A90 between the Glamis and Kirriemuir Junctions, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled start on Sunday 4 October and will take place over one week using 24-hour working with all improvements expected to be completed by 6.30am on Sunday 11 October. To allow these works to be carried out in a safe and efficient manner restrictions will be required on the network as follows;

  • Sunday 4 October – Overnight lane closures will be in place for safety on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for traffic management to be installed ahead of the project.

  • Monday 5 October to Sunday 11 October – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, a contraflow system will be in place starting before the Glamis Junction and ending just after Kirriemuir Junction. Signed diversion routes will be in place for all affected junctions.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £510,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works under a contraflow traffic management system which will keep the traffic moving.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

All waste materials and spoil resulting from these road works will be re-cycled in accordance with Scottish Environment Project Agency (SEPA) policies and procedures.
