A9 RAIGMORE INTERCHANGE GROUND INVESTIGATION WORKS START

June 26, 2025

  • Overnight works start on Monday 30 June for four nights

  • Lane closures from 7pm to 6am

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to start overnight ground investigation works on the A9 at Raigmore Interchange, Inverness from Monday 30 June.

This investigation will inform proposed active travel improvements which will see full-time traffic signal control introduced, as well as improved links for vulnerable road users. The works involve ground penetrating radar surveys and trial pits to assess ground conditions and ascertain the location and depth of underground services.

The investigations begin on the evening of Monday 30 June with all works expected to be completed by Friday 4 July, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, single lane closures will be in place on the Raigmore Interchange Roundabout, as well as the immediate approaches and exits. To minimise delays and disruption for road users, lane closures will be limited to night time off-peak periods between the hours of 7pm and 6am. No restrictions will be in place during the day.

Footways surrounding Raigmore Interchange are likely to be affected by the works with localised diversions in place overnight to ensure pedestrian safety is maintained throughout.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s Northwest Representative said: “These investigation works are part of a wider project to upgrade Raigmore Interchange to full-time signal control and improve active travel links. The works will help us to have a better understanding of the location and depth of underground services ahead of the construction phase.

“The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers, road users, and pedestrians safe during this project as our teams will be working at the roadside, footways, and grass verges, however, we will do all we can to complete the investigation as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
