BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out essential works on the Helmsdale River Bridge on the A9 from Tuesday 5 May 2026 to Friday 29 May 2026.
The essential works will involve replacing a bridge expansion joint, and conducting a scheduled bridge deck investigation to ensure its continued safe operation.
Traffic management in the form of two-way temporary lights will be in place for the duration of the works with traffic flow reduced to one lane over the bridge.
Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.
Richard Cook, BEAR Scotland’s North West Bridges Manager said: “These essential works will help ensure the continued safe operation of Helmsdale River Bridge by addressing general age-related wear and the inspection will allow us to better understand the condition of the structure.
“The traffic management is necessary to protect both our workforce and road users while these works are carried out.
“We thank road users and the local community for their patience while we complete these works.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
