NEW £170,000 ROAD SAFETY BARRIER IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT UNDERWAY ON A9 BALHALDIE TO GREENLOANING

Work to take up to two weeks

A road safety improvement project on the A9 near Dunblane worth £170,000 is underway this week.

The project will see improvements to the central reservation safety barrier between Balhaldie and Greenloaning to help ensure this section of the A9 remains safe.

The safety improvements started today (Monday 14 September) and are programmed to take place over two weeks.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a single lane closure will be in place 24/7 on the northbound carriageway for the duration of the project. In addition, speed restrictions will be in place on both the southbound and northbound carriageway for safety.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.  Safe operation procedures and risk assessments have also been developed to ensure teams are kept safe throughout the project

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “Safety is a top priority for both BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland and the delivery of this scheme on the A9 is part of our commitment to ensuring the network remains to the highest of standards.

“The traffic management is essential to keep the workforce and road users safe during this project as our teams will be working in the central reserve, however we will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience during this project and advise them to plan ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for up to date journey information and leave some extra time to reach their destination.”
