Road users travelling on the A87 will benefit from an improved road surface with BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, set to carry out works on the A87 at Glen Shiel, west of the Five Sisters of Kintail trailhead, from Tuesday 24 June.
The surfacing improvements will involve resurfacing the road to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer road for road users. The works are required to address deteriorating road surface conditions here as well as improve road markings.
The re-surfacing works will make the road more durable and resilient to inclement weather and are to be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am each night, with completion anticipated on the morning of Monday 30 June. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.
To protect the workforce and the travelling public, short sections of the carriageway will be closed in both directions each working night between 7pm and 6am. During these closures, amnesties will be provided to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am.
Outwith working hours, traffic management will be removed but a 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “These essential surfacing works will address existing defects and improve durability against poor weather, while also enhancing road markings. The improvements will enhance safety and driving conditions for all road users.
“We thank motorists for their patience while these works are carried out.”
