Please be advised that additional overnight closures to complete surfacing improvements on the A86 and A82 at Spean will take place this week.
Inclement weather last week impacted the full programme of work and three additional nights are required to complete the project.
The surfacing improvements will now be completed by 3am Saturday 20 March, subject to weather conditions.
The programme of work is as follows:
Due to the narrow carriageway width at this location of the A86, work will be carried out using a full road closure between 7pm and 7am to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. As there is no suitable diversion route available, amnesties will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am, and 4am each night. During these times vehicles will be safely escorted through the site under a 10mph convoy traffic management system. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.
The work at the A82 and A86 junction in Spean Bridge will take place in a shorter working window over two nights, 9pm to 3am. Due to the narrow carriageway width at this junction, work will be carried out using a full road closure on the A82 to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. A single amnesty will be provided at 12am only where vehicles will be safely escorted through the site. The single amnesty is necessary for safety reasons due to the tight nature of the bend. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.
Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours at each site however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.
Access for local residents and businesses will be maintained during the project, outwith the necessary closures, and emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.
All relevant stakeholders have been updated and have been advised of the revised date for this project.

Motorists using the A86 and A82 at Spean Bridge are set to benefit from an improved road surface.
The programme of improvements will see over 2km of the A86 and A82 resurfaced, promoting better ride comfort and safer journeys for motorists.
The £400,000 project began last week and will continue to take place in phases over three weeks. All work is scheduled to be completed by 3am Tuesday 16 March, subject to weather conditions.

Consultation has been undertaken with local residents, businesses, the local authority and emergency services to make them aware of the works and the traffic management arrangements that will be in place.

“We’ve split the project into three phases to allow us to reduce disruption as much as possible.
“The overnight closures are essential for ensuring the safety of roadworkers and road users due to the narrow widths of the road.
“The scheduled single amnesty at midnight during the final phase of work at the Spean Bridge junction is due to the tight nature of the bend, meaning it is not safe to allow traffic to pass until work has been completed in each lane. The delayed amnesty time is also to allow the material on the bend time to adequately cool before vehicles can travel over it without damaging the new surface.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we work on these projects.
