MEDIA UPDATE: OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A84 STRATHYRE POSTPONED

Please be advised that the £180,000 surfacing improvements on the A84 at Strathyre, outlined in the release below, have been postponed due to weather delays impacting the programme of planned works elsewhere on the trunk road network.

The project was due to get underway from Monday 19 October; however, the work will now be rescheduled to a later date.  The A84 will remain open as normal.

All relevant stakeholders have been made aware of the postponement and will be advised of the revised date for these works once confirmed.

£180,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A84 North of Strathyre

Project to begin from Monday 19 October for five nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm – 5am, excluding Friday and Saturday night

A section of the A84 north of the village Strathyre, is set to benefit from an improved road surface as surfacing improvements are set to get underway next week.

The £180,000 project will see just over half a kilometre of the A84 resurfaced, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.

The overnight project is set to begin Monday 19 October and is expected to take five nights to complete. The surfacing improvements will take place between 8pm and 5am each night with work due to be completed by 5am Monday 26 October. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to restricted road widths at this section of the A84, a road closure will be in place to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as road users. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A9, A823, A822 and A85 adding an additional 30 minutes to journeys between Doune and Lochearnhead. In an effort to minimise disruption amnesty periods will be provided at 9pm, 11pm, 1am and 3am when waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks.  Motorists are encouraged to arrive prior to these times to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

The road will be open during the daytime, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place to ensure vehicles can safely pass over the temporary road surface.

Access for local residents will be maintained during the project and emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe at all times.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This £180,000 resurfacing project will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users at this section of the A84.

“We have planned the works to take place overnight to help minimise disruption as much as possible during the project. The overnight road closures in place are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, however our teams will look to do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
