A84 NORTH OF STRATHYRE

December 11, 2020

Friday 11 December

ADDITIONAL OVERNIGHT ROAD CLOSURE REQUIRED FOR A84 NORTH OF STRATHYRE SURFACING PROJECT FROM 8PM MONDAY 14 DECEMBER

Please be advised that an additional overnight closure to complete road surfacing improvements on the A84 North of Strathyre is to occur next week.

The project was due to be completed by Tuesday 8 December, however the programme of work was impacted by inclement weather last week.

Works to complete the surfacing improvements will commence at 8pm Monday 14 December, and will be complete by 5am the following morning.

The traffic management regime will remain the same as previous nights, with a road closure implemented to protect the safety of roadworkers and road users. A signed diversion route will be operated via the A9, A823, A822 and A85 adding an additional 30 minutes to journeys between Doune and Lochearnhead. However, and in an effort to minimise disruption to road users, amnesty periods will be provided on the A84 at 9:30pm, 11pm, 1am and 3am when waiting traffic will be escorted safely through the roadworks.  Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

All relevant stakeholders have been updated and have been advised of the revised date for this project.

£180,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

 A84 North of Strathyre

Project to begin from Tuesday 1 December for five nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety 8pm – 5am each night, excluding Friday and Saturday nights

A section of the A84, north of the village Strathyre, is set to benefit from an improved road surface with works set to get underway next week.

The £180,000 project was originally programmed to take place in October but was postponed due to weather impacting the programme of planned works elsewhere on the trunk road network.

The proposed works on the A84 will now begin on Tuesday 1 December and are expected to take five nights to complete.  Works will be conducted between 8pm and 5am each night with the improvements scheduled for completion by 5am on Tuesday 8 December. No works are programmed for Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to the restricted road width on this section of the A84, a road closure will be in place to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users.

The A84 will be open during the daytime, with a 30mph speed limit in place to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works site on a temporary road surface.

Access for local residents will be maintained during the project and emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect operatives, such that they remain safe at all times.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “We’re delighted to have rescheduled this £180,000 resurfacing project, which will see just over half a kilometre of the A84 resurfaced, improving ride comfort and safety for road users.

“Due to the narrow road width we have to close the road overnight for safety; however, we’ve arranged for amnesties to take place at set hours to help minimise the effects of the project on road users by allowing traffic to safely pass through the site at set times.    We encourage users to arrive early prior to these times so they can be safely accommodated, or to utilise the posted diversion route via the A9, A823, A822 and A85.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete this project as quickly and safely as possible.  We thank the local community and travelling public for their patience in advance and also encourage them to plan their journeys ahead by checking Traffic Scotland for the most up to date journey information.”
