Due to the forecast for heavy rain, BEAR Scotland will be extending the use of the Old Military Road overnight on Monday 2 June to allow road users travelling along the A83 Rest and Be Thankful to continue their journeys safely.
A83 trunk road traffic is currently being diverted onto the Old Military Road during daytime hours on Monday 2 June and Tuesday 3 June. This is due to planned ground investigations being carried out by Structural Soils on behalf of Transport Scotland.
BEAR Scotland’s decision to maintain this diversion overnight as a safety precaution comes in response to a period of heavy rain arriving this evening into the morning of Tuesday 3 June. Use of this local diversion will protect road users and maintain traffic flow along the A83 corridor ensuring access to and from Argyll.
Traffic is expected to return to the A83 trunk road at 6pm on Tuesday 3 June.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The safety of road users is a top priority for BEAR Scotland and we closely monitor conditions at the Rest and Be Thankful on a daily basis.
“Our decision to extend the diversion into the overnight period is based on the incoming forecast for heavy rain.
“The use of this route maintains access to the A83 corridor for the travelling public, keeping Argyll very much open for business with minimal delays of around 20 minutes.
“Weather permitting, trunk road traffic will be returned to the A83 on Tuesday at 6pm once the planned ground investigations are completed.”
