£65,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

Works to begin on Sunday 16 May for three nights

A section of the A83 at Lochgilphead is set to benefit from an improved road surface with work due to begin on Sunday.

The £65,000 project will see a 150-metre section of the A83 resurfaced, improving the ride quality for all road users.

The works are scheduled to begin on the evening of Sunday 16 May and are expected to take three nights to complete. Working hours will be 7pm to 5am each night with the surfacing due to be completed by 5am on Wednesday 19 May, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of road users and operatives, a 10mph convoy system will be in place during working hours. For safety, road access to the Lochgilphead Tesco ESSO Express will be restricted during working hours. During the daytime, all traffic management will be removed but a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the work site on a temporary road surface.

Due to the location of the works, it will be necessary to hold traffic for durations of up to 30 minutes. This is to allow resurfacing of the roundabout to be carried out safely whilst ensuring the integrity of the new material. These periods will be programmed later in the shift, when traffic flows are reduced.

Access through the works for emergency services and pedestrians will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in force to protect teams and ensure they remain safe at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “This investment from Transport Scotland will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety of this section of the A83 in Lochgilphead.

“The traffic management proposed is essential to ensure the safety of our teams and road users, however we have taken steps to minimise disruption by avoiding works during the daytime.

“We thank road users for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
