A83 LOCH RESTIL TO BUTTERBRIDGE EMBANKMENT STABILISATION

July 6, 2026

  • Works start on Monday 13 July

  • 24/7 two-way traffic lights with a single lane closure and 30mph speed limit in place until Monday 14 September

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out embankment stabilisation works on the A83 between Loch Restil and Butterbridge from Monday 13 July.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 7am and 7pm and are expected to be completed by Monday 14 September.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, two-way traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the works to maintain traffic flow.

All works are weather dependent and subject to the condition of the embankment, which may not be fully understood until investigations commence. As a result, the programme is subject to change.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager said: “These embankment stabilisation works are key to continuing the ongoing safe operation of the A83.

“The works have been planned to minimise disruption to road users as far as possible, with the use of 24/7 two-way traffic lights and a temporary speed limit of 30mph, however some delays are to be expected, especially during peak times.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works and would request that road users fully comply with temporary speed limits to ensure our workers can go home safely to their families each day.”
