A83 AT REST AND BE THANKFUL RETURNS TO TWO-WAY OPERATION

January 25, 2024

  • Carriageway defect identified on A83 at Rest and be Thankful on Monday has been repaired following inspection and monitoring.
  • Temporary traffic lights removed and A83 now operating without restriction.
  • Weather and hillside conditions continue to be monitored given heavy rain and storms experienced in recent days.

The A83 at the Rest and be Thankful has returned to unrestricted two-way operation.

Temporary traffic lights were deployed on the trunk road on Monday, in response to a carriageway defect identified as part of the re-opening inspection process that followed use of the Old Military Road local diversion. The local diversion had been in operation since midday on Sunday as a precaution given Storm Isha and the increases in hillside saturation resulting from heavy rain.

While the weather is now forecast to improve, our teams continue to monitor the conditions at the Rest and be Thankful and Glen Kinglas.

Motorists are reminded that drainage improvement works are planned to be undertaken at the Rest and be Thankful, and will now commence on Monday 29 January 2024.  These works will be conducted with a single lane closure on the A83, with temporary traffic lights controlling traffic movements through the site.  It is envisaged that these works will take approximately four weeks to complete.
