A828 CONNEL BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS

November 24, 2022

  • Day-time street lighting replacements with convoy working on the 28th and 29th November.
  • Night-time lighting replacements and resurfacing works which will require road closures, to begin on the 7th of December.

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carrying out work to upgrade the Connel Bridge on the A828, with improvements to the lighting columns and carriageway resurfacing set to start on the 7th of December.

Preliminary work has already begun to construct a temporary walkway to the east side of Connel Bridge, to maintain safe access for pedestrians and cyclists in advance of an upcoming scheme to replace the bridge deck.

Full night closures are required to facilitate the works to replace the lighting columns and resurface the carriageway, with a diversion via the A85 to Tyndrum and the A82 to Ballachulish in operation each evening (see the diversion route in the table below). The night-time closures will be in place from 12am to 6am on 7th December 2022, with amnesties to let traffic through at 2am and 4am; 8th December from 8pm to 6am (unfortunately, due to the nature of the works, it will not be possible to allow access through amnesties on this date while resurfacing works are undertaken on the single lane); and 10th December from 12am to 6am, with amnesties at 2am and 4am. Full details can be seen in the table below.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete this project, which will greatly improve the Connel Bridge.

“We appreciate the disruption this may cause and would like to assure you that every effort has been made to minimise the closures. We encourage road users to plan their journey by timing access to coincide with the amnesties. Please plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
