A823(M) OVERNIGHT MAINTENANCE

May 23, 2025

  • Three overnight closures 26, 27 and 28 May 2025

The A823(M) will be closed in both directions from the M90 to Pitreavie Roundabout between 20:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 26, 27 and 28 May, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out a variety of routine maintenance tasks.

Works to be carried out include grass cutting, drainage cleaning, sign cleaning, detailed inspections and road sweeping.

During these closures, the following signed diversion routes will be in place:

  • From the northbound M90 to Pitreavie Roundabout, via the M90 northbound to turn at Junction 3 Halbeath and follow the M90 southbound to Junction 1C Admiralty, then the A985 and B980 Kings Road. This will add an estimated 11 minutes and 7.4 miles to affected journeys.
  • From the southbound M90 to Pitreavie Roundabout, via the M90 southbound to Junction 1C Admiralty, then the A985 and B980 Kings Road. This will add an estimated 4 minutes and 1 mile to affected journeys.
  • From Pitreavie Roundabout to the M90, via the B980 Kings Road and the A895 to Junction 1C Admiralty. This will add an estimated 3 minutes and no additional distance to affected journeys.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “We’ll be taking advantage of these overnight closures on the A823(M) to carry out as many routine maintenance tasks as possible, reducing the overall need for closures and traffic management.

“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway while work is taking place. Our advice if you need to use the A823(M) at night during this period is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their understanding.”
