£340,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A82 North of Dochfour

Project to begin from Sunday 29 November for two weeks

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm – 6am, excluding Friday and Saturday night

A section of the A82 five kilometres south of Inverness is set to benefit from an improved road surface with works set to get underway from Sunday night.

The £340,000 project will see a section of the A82 to the north of Loch Dochfour, resurfaced improving ride comfort and safety for road users.

Overnight works are set to begin Sunday 29 November and are expected to take two weeks to complete. The surfacing improvements will take place between 8pm and 6am each night with work due to be completed by 6am Friday 11 December. No work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to the narrow road widths throughout this location, the A82 will be closed in both directions during working hours to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A82, vehicles will be held at either side of the work site until they are able to be escorted safely through the site during pre-set amnesty periods at 9pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

The road will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works area on a temporary road surface.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in accordance with Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance, will be implemented to protect teams and ensure they remain safe at all times.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This £340,000 resurfacing project will greatly improve the quality and safety for road users at this section of the A82.

“The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users given the narrow width of the road. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out as much work as possible overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we work on this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
