Overnight slip road closures are scheduled on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass at Gilmerton Junction, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out landscape management works, including removal of dangerous and diseased trees and other vegetation.
The following closures will be in place on Monday to Friday nights from 31 August to 11 September:
| Dates | Location | Traffic management | Diversion routes |
| 31/08/2026 – 07/09/2026
(22:00-06:00)
(6 nights) |
Gilmerton eastbound off-slip | Slip road closure | Traffic diverted via Lasswade Junction, then along Gilmerton Station Road to Gilmerton Road. |
| 08/09/2026 – 11/09/2026
(22:00-06:00)
(4 nights) |
Gilmerton westbound on-slip | Slip road closure | Traffic diverted via Gilmerton Road, then along Gilmerton Station Road to Lasswade Junction. |
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close these slip roads while work is taking place. Our advice if you need to use the A720 at night during this period is to plan ahead and allow additional time for your journey.
“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their understanding.”
