The A7 between Selkirk and Langholm is set to benefit from carriageway improvements, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning ten nights of works on weeknights from 3 to 14 August.
The works will address two areas of deteriorated carriageway between Selkirk and Langholm, with road closures in place between 19:30 and 06:00 each night:
A7 near Footsburn (1 Mile North of Langholm): Road closure between Hawick and Canonbie on the nights of Monday to Friday 3-7 August and Monday 10 August. A signed diversion will be in place via the A698, A6088, B6357 and B7201, adding approximately 20 minutes and 7.7 miles onto affected journeys.
A7 south of Ashkirk Junction: Road closure between Selkirk and Hawick on the nights of Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 August. A signed diversion will be in place via the A699, A68 and A698, adding approximately 21 minutes and 13.6 miles onto affected journeys.
Local access for residents within the works area and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on theses sections of the A7 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
