A7 RESURFACING NORTH OF LANGHOLM AND SOUTH OF GALASHIELS

September 17, 2025

  • Overnight road closures on Monday to Friday nights from 3 to 21 October 2025

The A7 is set to benefit from an improved road surface north of Langholm and south of Galashiels, with a total of 12 nights of resurfacing works scheduled on Monday to Friday nights from 3 to 21 October.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a combined 2.4km of carriageway at two locations, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A7 will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00 each night at the following locations:

  • Friday 3 to Wednesday 15 October: A7 closed in both directions between Hoghill and Eskdalemuir (4km north of Langholm). A signed diversion will be in place between Canonbie and Hawick via the B7201, B6357, A6088 and A698, adding approximately 7.7 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.
  • Thursday 16 to Tuesday 21 October: A7 closed in both directions between Boleside and Glenmayne (1km south of Galashiels) A signed diversion will be in place between Selkirk and Kingsknowe Roundabout, via the A698, A68 and A6091, adding approximately 9.6 miles and 12 minutes to affected journeys.

Local access will be allowed up to the point of the hard closure points. Access within the closure section will be permitted for local residents and emergency vehicles.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address defects on these sections of the A7 and will greatly enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during the works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
