A1 RESURFACING WORKS IN EAST LOTHIAN

September 6, 2022

  • Overnight carriageway closures at Abbotsview and north of Thistly Cross

  • Works scheduled for 11-14 and 24-28 October 2022

The A1 in East Lothian is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with nine nights of resurfacing works scheduled from 11-14 and 24-28 October.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface a combined 2,211 metres of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the following overnight carriageway closures will be in place:

  • Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 October: The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed between the slip roads at Abbotsview Junction between 19:30 and 06:00 each night. Northbound traffic will be directed to leave the A1 via the Abbotsview Junction off-slip and immediately re-join via the Abbotsview Junction on-slip.
  • Monday 24 to Friday 28 October: The southbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed north of Thistly Cross Roundabout. A diversion route will be signposted between Abbotsview Junction and Thistly Cross Roundabout via the A199, adding approximately 3 minutes and 0.1 miles to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A1 will improve ride quality and safety for motorists using these sections of the trunk road.

“We’ve scheduled the works overnight and the diversion routes are relatively short, so we do not expect the required carriageway closures to result in any significant disruption.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience while we complete these improvements.”
