A1 RESURFACING WORKS AT THISTLY CROSS

February 10, 2022

WORKS RESCHEDULED:
Due to adverse weather, these works will now take place from Wednesday 2 to Friday 11 March from 19:30 to 06:00, with no works planned on Saturday or Sunday night (8 nights in total).

  • Overnight northbound closures scheduled for 1-4 March

The A1 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with four nights of resurfacing works scheduled for 1-4 March.

The project will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface 205 metres of carriageway on the northbound approach to Thistly Cross Roundabout, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the northbound A1 will be closed from Dunbar to Haddington between 19:30 and 06:00 each night.

A signed diversion route will be in place via the A1087, Countess Road and Summerfield Road through Dunbar, before re-joining the A1087 to Beltonford Roundabout and taking the A199 to Haddington Junction on the A1.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
